  Success By 6

There is significant research that indicates "the more children are read to at an early age, the more likely they are to succeed in their school years and beyond." As part of the Reading Initiative, the second Friday of every month has been proclaimed as Lawton READS time. Adults are reading to children throughout the Lawton-Fort Sill area. (And wouldn’t it be wonderful if everyone in Lawton "READ" on this day.)

   Volunteer  - Lawton Reads

Let's all read to a child today!Mary Spannagel, from Oklahoma Blood Institute, a reading volunteer at Brockland Elemertary said, "This is a wonderful experience, not only for the kids, but for the reading volunteer. It is so neat to be at the mall and have one of the kids recognize me and say hello. The class drew Christmas pictures and sent them to me. I hope this program continues. If you are not a Reading Volunteer, I encourage you to become one."

Success By 6 Partnerships in Lawton READS: Great Plains Childcare Resource and Referral, Lawton Public School, Marie Detty Head Start, Junior Service League, and City of Lawton’s Teen Council.

Be a reading volunteer --- call Jane Mitchell, Director of Success By 6, at the Lawton-Fort Sill United Way 355-0218 or contact a local public school, Head Start, or Childcare facility and say that you want to participate in Lawton READS.
