2-1-1 -
Today Helpline is a partner in Oklahoma’s 2-1-1- network. Helpline, a United Way of Lawton-Fort Sill funded and sponsored program has been providing Information and Referral services for Health and Human Services needs in Comanche County for over 30 years. In 2007 Helpline converted their operation to the 2-1-1- network joining 6 other call centers serving the entire state of Oklahoma with information and referral services. |

Agency -
Any of the not-for-profit 501 (c) 3 organizations we fund through United Way. |
| Alexis de Tocqueville - National Leadership giving recognition level of $10,000 and above annually |
| Allocations Process AKA Citizen Review - The traditional way United Way distribute funds. A volunteer-led process. In a donor choice environment this may be refened to as the United Way Community Fund or “Community Care”. |
| Audit Review Committee AKA ARC - (Fund Distribution) Persons who perform the audit of the applications for funding that United Way receives. |
| Autonomous - Independent. Self Governing. United Way of Lawton-Fort Sill is an independent
organization that is one of 1,350 members of United Way of America. We act independently in determining any governing or funding issue. |

Black out period -
Period from August 1 through October31 recognized as our community campaign
when organizations that receive funding from us are restricted from solicitation of businesses or corporations. |

Campaign -
The 10-12 week effort during August through October set aside to raise awareness for community need, visit area businesses and distribute and collect pledge cards. |
| Card Value - A campaign term defining the information about the prior year donation from a business as the value of the new year’s pledge potential. |
| CFC AKA Combined Federal Campaign - The separate campaign for federal employees and military personal. The Office of Personnel Management! OPM governs the terms and conditions and the Local Federal Coordinating Committee /LFCC runs the campaign. United Way has been the PCFO or Principal Combined Fund Organization for a number of years. |
| Community Building - Not just serving as the community check book asking for donations, but acting
as convener, collaborator, planning partner, policy advocate, and facilitator sometimes working behind the scenes
through volunteers to affect change. |
| Community Impact - Creating sustained changes in community conditions. |
| Corporate Designations - This refers to designations made by corporations or other business entities
to a United Way rather than those made by individual or employee donors. |

Day of Caring AKA DOC -
The event United Way of Lawton-Fort Sill sponsors to kick off our campaign. Approximately 300 volunteers join us for breakfast and continue their day at work projects at area agencies. |
| Deficit Funding - Providing funding to non-profits to cover the bottom line. In this process the
applicant doesn’t address the programs they provide just their overall spending. |
| Designation - A donors ability to assign their pledge! gift to a specific charity. |
| Division - A tenn in campaign indicating a certain group of businesses, usually based on the
type of business operation. |
| Donor Choice - Giving donors the option to give to a specific organization or field of service. |

Employee Campaign Coordinator AKA FCC -
Employees assigned the task of coordinating the campaign in their workplace. |
| Exclusion Designation - An exclusion designation is where donors are given the option to exclude agencies from their contribution. |
| Executive Committee - The United Way leadership team of officials, cabinet members and members at
large that meet monthly. |

Fair Share Giving -
Giving the equivalent of 1 hour pay or 1% of your salary if you make over $20,000
per month to United Way. |
| Field of Service AKA Targeted Care - Definition given a broad category of human services needs used to classify the type of service provided by organizations. Examples would include Strengthening Families and increasing Self-Sufficiency, Caring for Neighbors in Crisis, Nurturing success for Children, Building a Healthy Community. |
| First Dollars In - In our United Way designations of pledges to an agency are counted as the first
dollars of their support. Designations therefore only affect the income an agency will receive if they are substantially more than the Funds Distribution amount. |
| Funds Distribution - Describes a broad range of activity that includes the process of non-profits applying for funds, the volunteer committee who helps review the applications, and the final recommendation the board
makes to distribute funds raised during campaign. |
| Funds Distribution Committee or Panel - That group of individuals (usually 60-70+) who serve to review requests for funding. Usually divided in to panels of 7-10 individuals who are assigned 3 agencies each to review. Usually completed in April to July |

| Honor Donor Choice - Formally offers an opportunity to designate a choice(s) in writing to donors on the pledge card or on a designation card. Not all choices must be displayed on this form. |
